The Globalization of Security Threats
Many IT experts are predicting large increases in security threats this year. PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), for example, is forecasting that global security incidents will grow an alarming 48% in 2015.
Not only are security incidents occurring more frequently, they are also impacting businesses of all sizes and in every region of the world. Recent attacks outlined in TechRepublic provide several examples of increased security threats that having an impact on a global scale:
- In South Korea, approximately 105 million payment card accounts were exposed in a security breach
- City officials in Verden, Germany announced the theft of 18 million email addresses, passwords and other information
- Cyber thieves stole more than $45 million from worldwide ATM accounts of two banks in the Middle East
- More than half (53%) of global securities exchanges have experienced a cyber-attack
The question many might be asking is why, in this age of growing awareness and advanced security technologies, do these threats continue to increase?
From Cirius’ perspective, data protection issues for organizations have historically had a great deal to do with the complexity of deployment and lack of usability of traditional encryption solutions. Additionally, it can be challenging for organizations to create a centralized strategy that considers multiple business units, with potentially hundreds of domains that use a mix of on-premise and hosted email.
The good news is that there is a new generation of messaging security in the cloud that is tackling both the problems of complexity and lack of usability of traditional solutions.
As both regulated and non-regulated companies adopt these new tools, they are discovering that secure messaging encompasses far more than just email content protection. Secure messaging is becoming a core information management and communications tool that prevents data loss, enables large file transfer and secures mobile messaging on any device. Companies with secure messaging platforms gain a competitive edge through better relationships with customers and prospects, increased productivity, lower overhead, and a reputation of trust.
